(Review) Gin no Saji aka Silver Spoon: An All-Time Favorite
Gin no Saji or Silver Spoon is a complete manga/anime!
It’s a slice of life manga that has already been serialized into an anime for two seasons. Telling a story about Hachiken, who struggled finding his life goals after always getting pressured by his father to get a high grade.
Not getting the results he (and his father) wanted even though he already tried his best, he gave up and ran away to a husbandry vocational school recommended by his junior school teacher, Ooezo High School. Having zero knowledge about the field, Hachiken learnt so many new things, gained a lot of good friends and new goals.
Nothing sounds interesting, right? But trust me, Gin no Saji is very very very entertaining. It’s very good! Just like what I said earlier, Gin no Saji is a complete story.
Watching this, you’ll get a lot of new insight about livestock, agriculture, and so many other things related to those fields. As someone who has no background about it, Silver Spoon sure is very interesting to follow.
When I say a lot, I really mean it. You’ll get new insight in EVERY chapters/episodes. How they take care of a cattle from birth to slaughter, food processing, they show it all in a very fun (and delicious) way!
Not only that, you’ll also get different points of view regarding those fields. Silver Spoon will show you how livestock and agriculture work from the POV of a small company, a big company, to non-background, just like Hachiken.
Along with that, it also gives you so many precious life lessons. Gin no Saji not just teaches you to not give up your dreams. But also, just because you have a dream, it doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. There’s always something to sacrifice in order to achieve that. And, even if you did, sometimes it’s still not enough and you’ll end up not getting what you want.
I love how they tell us those lessons through a livestock and agriculture POV. What leaves me a big impression is that when farm animals like dairy cows or horses are disabled, they must be slaughtered immediately. Or a crop that didn’t grow perfectly will cost very cheap or even free, because no one will buy it.
It’s like as if they have no second choice. It’s like, suddenly all of their efforts are in vain… It’s like, how many of us humans will not get any chance to grow after we fail or make some mistake.
Oh, well, it may sound very deep but as I say it before, they tell the story in such a fun way. Yes, Gin no Saji not only offers you a deep life lesson, it also gives you a lot of fun and comedic moments!
You’ll see many interesting characters with different charms. Trust me, you guys will laugh a lot watching it. They also give a slightly romantic and fun scene between Hachiken and Mikage (with a twist of punchline in almost all of their moments lol).
So, how? Slice of life with a comedy, drama, an insightful and motivating lessons, what a complete story right?
Gin no Saji aka Silver Spoon is one of the best slice of life story I’ve ever known. It’ll always be my all-time favorite that I’ll never get bored of. I can guarantee you, a non-anime/manga enjoyer, that you’ll love Silver Spoon.
P.S:
- I kinda wish they will continue the anime since the story isn’t finished yet. But if they don’t (and I think they’ll not), you could just read the manga from chapter 76 if you already finished the anime.
